Wen Zhe, born in 1990 in Hunan, later moved to Guangdong. He graduated from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, receiving a Bachelor's degree in 2012 and a Master's degree in 2015. His works primarily use traditional Chinese painting materials such as silk, mineral and plant pigments, and digital images as the main media. Growing up in the rapid development of computer and internet technology in the 1990s, during his studies, he became greatly interested in the rich imagination opened up by the traditional Chinese painting concept of "seeing with the mind's eye." In his creations, he continues to use meticulous painting techniques and representational methods, but avoids being captive to reality. Traditional meticulous painting is transformed into digital and gaming elements, implying a departure from the cultural context and conventions imposed by the medium of painting, becoming a set of rules that control the game in a virtual world, and transforming totem worship into digital faith. Realism and simulacrum, multiview and orthographic, brushwork and modules, traditional and digital intertwine in syntax, reality and game intersect in artistic conception. The ancient vocabulary renders a new perceptual experience, generating a world where the past and present, reality and virtuality coexist, reflecting the living environment of China's young generation in the digital era.
